Daphne, AL is a beautiful city settled in southwest Alabama along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Daphne is known as “The Jubilee City”, which comes from the fact that it’s one of the only cities in this part of the world known to experience the “Jubilee” phenomenon. A “Jubilee” is when blue crabs, shrimp and fish swim from the depths of the bay into the shallow waters along the shore, just waiting to be scooped up!
Just across the bay from Daphne sits Mobile, the third most populous city in the entire state. As part of the greater Mobile area, Daphne has all the perks of a big city while keeping that local community feel its residents love. Daphne offers residents an abundance of options for recreation, shopping and dining, as well as community events that help make the city a place where residents can live, work and play year round.
In the past 50 years, Daphne has grown by leaps and bounds to become the city it is today. In 2020, Daphne recorded a population that was nearly twelve times larger than its population in the 1970s. Due to the large amount of growth Daphne has experienced over the recent years, it has become known as a community of opportunity. This makes it a welcoming and exciting environment for businesses of all sizes.
Since the 1980s, David’s Catfish House has been an Alabama staple since the opening of our first location in nearby Monroeville. Since then, we have expanded to numerous locations across southwest Alabama and nearby northwest Florida. We knew that Daphne would be a perfect location for a new restaurant, especially due to the extreme opportunity for growth and the welcoming community of customers who already know and love our food.
Daphne provides a great opportunity for new businesses and new growth, but its residents haven’t forgotten where they came from. In Daphne, you will find a culmination of rich historic culture that you can only find in the south. Our mom-and-pop restaurant may be one of many in the area, but our food is still cooked the way it always was, with classic southern charm, tradition and, of course, shrimp, crab claws and oysters purchased from Alabama’s seafood capital, Bayou La Batre.
As we establish roots in the Daphne community, we are excited to invite old friends and newcomers to try our food, especially our catfish and cheese grits. This dish has been a customer favorite for decades; it was even named one of the 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel for two consecutive years.
We are proud to be one of the many new businesses, both big and small, to open in Daphne this year.
Opened in the summer of 2021, our new Daphne location is situated conveniently off US-98. This prime location makes it so you can swing by for lunch, after work or on the weekend for a quick bite of our delicious homestyle food.
